Abstract
|
|
|
The spontaneous perforation of the common bile duct in the absence of surgery, traima or obdy
ructing calculi is exceedingly rare. It has been attributed to many factors, among them being
increased intraluminal pressure from obstruction below the point of rupture, necrosis of the common
duct wall secondary to mural vascular thromnosis, slough of the cystic duct stump, perforation of a
ductal diverticulum, erosion, by tumor, reflux of pancreatic secretions, infection, weakness of the
duct wall produced by previous choledochostomy, and unknown factors.
We have recently seen two patiensts with bile peritonitis due to spontaneous perforation of the
common bile duct.
